RE: Any opinions on Chaparral or Copper Canyon

DW and I bought the Coachmen Chaparral Lite 270RKS in June and love it. Workmanship seems to be excellent and haven't had any issues at all so far. We have been out 10-12 long weekends and actually lived in it for a while in Sept. when storms knocked out power at home. The only complaint that I have is the DVD/CD surround is kinda cheesy but plan on upgrading that in the spring. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. Tim

RE: Fifth Wheel that I can tow

Have you looked at the Coachmen line of 5er's? We have a GMC 2500 4x4 and have no problem towing our 2008 Coachmen Chaparral 270RKS. It has a dry weight of aprox 7500# with the upgrades and a pin weight of around 1400-1500. We have had no issues with it so far and the workmanship IMO is very good.

RE: We need a mattress

We added a memory foam topper to ours as well as a pillow top matress cover and and that did the trick. Not quite as comfortable as our Select Comfort bed at home but very comfortable none the less. Tim

RE: Lid Stays

I'm assuming you mean the catches on the outside of your rv that hold the storage doors up. Go to the Camping World site and search for "latches" or "catches". I found a couple of different styles there. Your local rv dealership probably has several varieties to choose from also. Good luck.

RE: Yet ANOTHER Winerization Question - I'm New!

I have a 2008 Coachmen 5er with a Flowjet water pump. The pump has quick connecters on the suction and discharge lines. I went to the local RV sales and bought a connecter that one end fits into the suction side of the pump and the other end has a hose barb. Connected a 3' clear 1/2' hose to it, stuck the hose into the jug of pink stuff, turned the water pump on and started winterizing. I did drain water heater and by-passed and drained lines via the low point drains before adding the antifreeze. This is much easier than adding to the fresh tank and you don't need as much antifreeze to do this. If you have any questions please PM me and I'll help any way I can. Tim

RE: Insurance

We have ours through Progressive for aprox. $400/yr. It includes roadside svc, full replacement, etc. as the other poster mentioned. Had our old TT through them also. So far no claims so I can't comment on their reliability.

RE: Block Ice

We use washed and cleaned gallon milk jugs. When the ice starts melting it gives nice cool drinking water.

RE: "Shore Power"

Nautical terminology has been used on land for many years. For instance the name for a particular covered wagon in the 1800's was the "Prairie Schooner".

RE: Cleaning Roof

I use equal amounts of each and guess at how strong. Probably 1/2 cup of each.

RE: 25% off used fiver

sharker6 I really don't have any input for ya but just wanted to say hey since we're from the same neck of the woods. Good luck in your dealings with the 5er.

RE: Crude futures to go under $90 BBL Today

A week ago here it was $3.42/gal. Went on a business trip and returned home to $3.74/gal. Just got back from a trip to Buffalo NY and paid $4.09/gal in Ohio. I really don't see it dropping very much in the near future.JMHO

RE: Portable fire pit

We have the "Little Red Portable Campfire". We keep it in the storage of the 5er and break it out on those cool mornings when we don't want to start a real fire. I got it from CW for $130 or so. DW loves not smelling like smoke the rest of the day.

RE: Reese Slider round tube or square tube?

I have the 16K square tube slider and haven't had any trouble with it. I keep the rails lubed with white lithium and they slide very smoothly.

RE: fiver length info

My 5er is a model 270rks.....27' rear kitchen. The actual length including the spare tire and extended pin box is closer to 32'. The actual length is always longer than the advertised model length.

RE: sink in bedroom

In a fifth wheel, the sink in the bedroom comes as a part of the pass-through bathroom. We find it makes for a much roomier bathroom since it combines the hallway and the bathroom. When you have a separate bathroom you still have to have a hallway up to the bedroom.
With the toilet in the "closet" as some folks have described, it keeps the oders out of the bathroom. We have no troubles using the "closet" toilet and like the pass-through bathroom. It's also nice to be able to roll out of bed and splash water on your face.
One last plus: Is there anything better than lounging in bed in the morning, cup of coffee in hand, sports center on the television, and the wife in the shower in plain view. Life just doesn't get any better than that!
Ditto!!
